I’m changing it up today, not doing a movie but a classic comic book series back in the late 80s. Alan Moore is a brith writer and is one of my all time favorite writers. If you are reading this, you will be familiar with his work: The Watchmen, V for Vendetta, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen to name a few.
Well, before there was the “Mature” imprint of DC called Vertigo, there was Swamp Thing. While Alan did not create Swamp Thing, that was Len Wien, he did write the seminal Swamp Thing for a little over two years. Starting with issue #20 of Saga of Swamp Thing, Alan Moore created a gothic horror series set in Louisiana that was truly brilliant.
While these issues can be hard to find, they have been re-print many times in various forms and I will HIGHLY recommend these stories.
There is some throughline story, but many of the issues are
“one and done” episodic comics, which are really fun to read. A couple of times Batman or others of the DC universe will pop in, but mostly it’s self-contained to Swamp Thing and the horrors that he is battling in the bayou. Again, if you are a fan of good gothic/southern horror, you gotta read these.
